You got 24 hours (or more) in Amsterdam and want to explore the city from another side than most tourists do? Checking out the following spots, you won`t find too many tourists as these are real local hotspots far away from the well-known red light district or the Heineken Museum. I traveled to Amsterdam, the city of cycling, to find the Best Coffee Shops, Men Tailors, and Restaurants. Here are my Amsterdam Favorites!

The best Coffee in Amsterdam – Scandinavian Embassy

I have to admit that I maybe go a little bit far but the Coffee (they do proper filter coffee) I had at Scandinavian Embassy was from another world. The Chef Rikard – a real Scandinavian guy – is standing behind the bar himself and does the best-poached egg I had for quite a while. The Interior looks a little bit like DIY and almost conceals how high the food quality really is. Take the time to reserve yourself a seat at the bar and have a little one to one on how to cook the perfect poached egg because this guy really nails it (he learned from a french Chef)

The Downside at the Scandinavian embassy are the relatively high prices for breakfast. If you go to have a proper breakfast with your lady and don`t cut short on coffee and fresh juices, you easily spend 50€. An invest I was more than happy to do.

Food from around the world – Foodhallen Amsterdam

In an old and with big effort renovated industry complex in the west of Amsterdam, you will find the Foodhallen on over 1000sqm. From sushi to burgers from “the Butcher”, your gourmet heart won`t miss a thing. Between 5 and 10 Euro per Dish, you can easily try 2-3 Booths after one another without getting overwhelmed by the sizes of the portions.

Interior- and Men Tailor Shops – Haarlemerstraat

Not far from the central station, you will find the 2km long Haarlemerstraat. I didn`t count but you will find more than 20-30 interior and concept stores for every taste. (mostly Scandinavian stuff though)

Tenue de Nîmes

Tenue de Nîmes is just an awesome store in regard to their stock as well as the store design. Very classy stuff but not overdone in any way. If you enjoy brands like Ben Sherman or Nowadays Clothing, you will find something for sure.

Restored

Do you like Scandinavian interior and simple styles? Then you should definitely pay Restored a visit. Located in the Haarlemerdijk, which is the extension of Haarlemerstraat, this store got all your interior heart needs.

Pro Tip: Don`t come with your girlfriend – they got way too much copperware in stock.

Camera Porn in Amsterdam – Foto Nivo Schweitzer, the Leica Paradise

As I am a photographer, there was no way to not spend Nivo Schweitzer a visit as these Gentlemen are the biggest Leica Store in the Netherlands. The Store Windows is stocked with loads of expensive Leica glass which could easily be worth a medium size house. Even if you are not infected by the Leica virus, there is loads of other cool stuff to discover (regardless if you are an amateur or pro)

Amsterdams first Speakeasy Bar – The Door 74

I was always fascinated by the speakeasy bar concept. A Bar, only a few people know and that you easily miss if you don`t know where the entrance is. The Door 74 is a bar exactly like that. You only get access to it if you know the password which you can get if you call and make a reservation beforehand (recommended).

You can expect high-quality drinks to high prices (12-18€) that are well worth it. If you love best quality spirits and traditional drinks I highly recommend you pay these Gentlemen a visit.
